Balancing between Efficiency and Adaptability
Machines are excellent things. They have achieved efficiency to an extent where even their creaters feel belittled. Whether it be the capability to do repetitive things and predictibility of produce over a long period, or the accuracy of calculation, or simply the completion of difficult calculations, complex tasks, mechanical feats, memorizing large amounts of data which humans can not do.
However, there are areas in which these excellent machines are incapable of doing. When work requires understanding, inteliigence, innovation, emotion ……, we only need humans. But, after recruiting humans, we expect them to work like machines. When they donot deliver or live up to our expectations, we call them poor performers.
Is it genuine to expect a human worker to be 100% efficient. Managers would be totally supportive of this statement. However, it is very important to understand team dynamics.
In todays world, we expect people to work in a team. And teams cannot start peforming on the first day.
